IMPORTANT RECALL NOTIFICATION

Check your Fire Extinguishers!

When is the last time you checked your fire extinguisher? For some of us, the time between checks goes a bit too long and if we’re being honest, some of us can’t even remember if it’s ever been checked. I remember growing up, my Grandmother had an extinguisher behind the seat of her old Datsun pickup, it was always there, in fact, I don’t think it ever moved more or less get checked for efficiency or safety. So, that image has always been in my mind that an extinguisher is good forever. As most of you know, this is a dangerous practice and like anything, it must be kept up, to work when it’s really needed. Standard safety guidelines says you should be having your extinguisher checked by a fire protection equipment company annually, and a complete breakdown and internal inspection must be done every 6 years.  Eeek, my poor Grandmother would have never known if her extinguisher would actually work in an emergency and thank God we never had to see if it did.

Well, here’s the time that we say, Go check your Fire Extinguisher! Not just because it’s been too long, but actually in November 2017, Kidde announced a fire extinguisher recall in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada. As part of this recall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has communicated its own recall (NHTSA Recall No. 17E-062) as some of these affected fire extinguishers were used in motor vehicles, including RVs.
